(September 29, 2013, New Orleans, LA) – The National Black Child Development Institute today awarded A. Scott Bolden, the Managing Partner of Reed Smith’s Washington, D.C., office, and Reed Smith LLP its prestigious 2013 “Corporate Citizen Award” at the organization’s 43rd annual conference in New Orleans.

“The Corporate Citizen Award is NBCDI’s highest tribute to members of the foundation and private sectors who demonstrate not only to NBCDI and our mission, but more importantly to ensuring the well being of our children,” said Felicia DeHaney, Ph.D., President and CEO of the Institute. “As a champion of children, you and Reed Smith have provided professional and personal support to our efforts to uplift African American children and their families. The award was presented to Bolden by NBCDI Board Chair Dimitrius Hutcherson at the Opening Session of the organization’s yearly meeting.

Since 1970, the National Black Child Development Institute has pursued its mission “to improve and advance the quality of life for Black children and their families through education and advocacy,” serving as national resource providing strengths-based programs, publications, policy and trainings focused on health and wellness; early childhood development and education; elementary and secondary education; literacy; child welfare; and family engagement.
