“Reed Smith is harnessing its strengths to increase its brand ranking to top 10 levels,” according to BTI Consulting Group’s latest corporate counsel research report: The BTI Brand Elite: Client Perceptions of the Best-Branded Law Firms 2013.

In the survey, Reed Smith ranks ninth on the overall “Brand Elite 18” list and is called a “Rolls Royce of law firms.” BTI also names Reed Smith as one of the top six “innovation idols,” a “client’s leading choice,” and one of the legal industry’s very “best brand builders,” among several other accolades.

BTI’s report is the result of extensive research with more than 500 corporate counsel, and it identifies 398 firms among the largest 650 that are “building and defining distinct differentiators in the eyes of corporate clients.” The strengths of these firms’ brands are then further analyzed and ranked for client recommendations, premium reputation, and innovation.

How Reed Smith Ranked

In the Client’s Choice category, Reed Smith places among the top 16 firms. Additionally, it is among nine firms named “client’s lead choice” and is ranked as one of the top 12 “most recommended.”

Among 34 firms named in the Premium category, Reed Smith is called a “bet-the-company leader,” makes the “premium value honor roll” and is considered to have “strong long-term prospects.”

The report then examines Innovation, which BTI defines as “a promise of creative approaches and new thinking.” In this category, Reed Smith is among only six firms to achieve the top honor of “Innovation Idol.” The firm is also named among the “leading movers & shakers,” “leading tech‐savvy law firms,” “leading value leaders” and “leading client service strategists.”

The report goes on to recognize Reed Smith among 19 firms named as the “best brand builders,” that currently have the “greatest upward trajectory in how they are perceived by clients.”

Finally, owing to all of the above distinctions, Reed Smith ranks No. 9 on the overall “BTI Brand Elite 18” list. To make this final cut, firms were required to perform significantly better than all others in the three critical success factors defining brand and influencing hiring and selection: Client’s Choice, Premium and Innovation.
