The firm earned its first Thomas L. Sager Award for the West Region – which includes Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming – in 2005. It was also among the three Sager Award finalists for the West Region in 2012.
Tyree Jones, Reed Smith’s Director of Global Diversity & Inclusion, accepted the 2013 award on behalf of Reed Smith at the MCCA's 12th Annual CLE Expo in San Diego, in conjunction with the California Minority Counsel Program. “This award is due in no small measure to the outstanding efforts of Reed Smith’s Diversity Committee, which works tirelessly to recruit and retain diverse personnel in all positions, firm-wide,” he said. “We are proud of the progress we have already made already and determined to maintain our momentum.”
The award, named for diversity leader and DuPont Senior Vice President and General Counsel Thomas L. Sager, is given annually to law firms that demonstrate sustained commitment to diversity in their organizations. In addition to analyzing statistical data, the MCCA rates Sager nominees on diversity results in recruitment, retention, mentoring, promotion, pipeline initiatives, LGBT initiatives, women initiatives, work-life balance, collaborative efforts with community and bar associations, and innovative practices that result in sustainable efforts to increase diversity.
As the 2013 Sager Award Western Region winner, Reed Smith will be profiled in Diversity & the Bar magazine, the official magazine of the MCCA published in conjunction with American Lawyer Media and distributed quarterly to 30,000 members of the legal community nationwide as an insert to Corporate Counsel Magazine.
