Global law firm Reed Smith today announced the appointment of Rashpaul Bahia to its partnership. Rashpaul joins the firm’s Energy and Natural Resources Group from McDermott Will & Emery and will be based in London.

Rashpaul’s practice primarily focuses on energy and commodity derivatives transactions, representing financial institutions, hedge funds, and energy and commodity companies in a variety of trading, transactional, cross-border regulatory and risk management issues.

Reed Smith’s Energy and Natural Resources offering has grown significantly in the last three years. Most recently the firm opened two new offices in Houston and Singapore, in response to client demand in the energy and natural resources, commodity, trade and shipping sectors. The expansion of the firm’s presence in these markets has been underpinned by the arrival of 15 new partners In Houston (seven of whom focus on the energy and natural resources sector) and five new partners in Singapore, including three who specialise in energy, natural resources and commodities.

In London, Rashpaul’s arrival marks the eleventh new partner to join Reed Smith’s Energy and Natural Resources Group in the last three years. The firm has worked to build its transactional energy and commodity derivatives practice in recent years and has appointed a number of partners including John Varholy, Brett Hillis and, most recently, Peter Zaman to strengthen its offering.

Kyri Evagora, Co-Chair of Reed Smith’s Energy and Natural Resources Group, commented:
“We are very pleased to have Rashpaul on board. He is a further great addition to our firm and to our global Energy & Natural Resources practice. He is bringing skills and experience that we and our clients welcome".

Rashpaul Bahia added:
“Reed Smith’s platform and strength in depth across the energy and commodities sector is already recognised as market leading. The firm is known for its understanding of providing energy and commodities market participants with a consolidated service offering as clients themselves have continued to consolidate, particularly between the financial and physical trading markets. This, together with Reed Smith’s excellence in areas such as shipping, trade finance and disputes, makes it a natural fit for my practice.”
