“Peggy is a significant addition to our Energy team and our Houston office,” said Prajakt Samant, Chair of the firm's Energy and Natural Resources Industry Group. “She is a highly regarded practitioner, who enjoys a sterling reputation in a market that she has guided and helped shape over the years. Her regulatory experience also strongly complements our recently arrived FERC team, which now includes a former FERC commissioner, the head of a leading private FERC practice, and, with Peggy, the former general counsel of a multinational energy company.”
Prior to joining Fulbright in 2003, Heeg was executive vice president and general counsel for El Paso Corporation, which, at the time, owned the largest natural gas pipeline system in the United States, and was the nation’s largest provider of natural gas. Today, Heeg’s practice includes a focus on crude oil pipeline infrastructure, providing practical advice to clients as they develop and operate crude oil pipelines.
“Reed Smith in Houston is a natural fit for my energy and commodities practice,” said Heeg. “The depth of the firm’s energy sector knowledge and broad-based capabilities position the firm to provide both practical advice and commercial solutions. I am also attracted to the firm’s collaborative approach, its client service focus, and its innovative use of technology, as well as its commitment to growing in Texas. I look forward to being part of a team that is advising the industry on its most challenging regulatory and compliance issues.”
Bolstering Reed Smith’s expanding regulatory offering, Heeg brings decades of experience in matters before the FERC, where she began her career as a commissioner advisor and staff attorney, and before the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Drawing upon her energy experience, Heeg assists clients with complex corporate governance and high-level internal investigations.
“We are very excited to have Peggy join us, she will be a great benefit to our clients across Texas and beyond,” said Kenneth E. Broughton, Reed Smith’s Houston office managing partner. “Peggy is a core member of the Houston community, and her work and experience put her in direct contact with some of the most important companies in Houston and throughout the energy industry.”
Heeg’s significant board-level experience includes serving on the Board of Directors of Eagle Rock Energy, a publicly traded master limited partnership for whom she chaired the governance committee, and Columbia Pipeline Partners LP. A champion for diversity and women’s career advancement in business and law, Heeg is a founder of the Center for Women in Law, and also serves as an advisory board member to Direct Women, an organization whose goal is to position senior women lawyers for service as directors of major U.S. corporations.
