Global law firm Reed Smith is pleased to announce that Paris based International Arbitration partner Clément Fouchard has been appointed President of the ICC France Arbitration Commission.

Fouchard was selected following a unanimous decision by the selection committee composed of the current Commission leadership, several other distinguished lawyers, and a corporate legal counsel.

Fouchard has over 18 years’ experience advising on major litigation and arbitration proceedings. He has regularly acted for French and international clients in arbitrations seated across the globe and has particular experience in complex disputes in the construction, energy and infrastructure, mining, defense and distribution sectors, as well as considerable experience with joint ventures and post-acquisition disputes.

In addition to his experience as counsel, Fouchard acts as an arbitrator in domestic and international arbitrations (ICC).

Clément is a co-founder of Paris Arbitration Week (PAW) and a member of the PAW board and served as treasurer between 2019 and 2022. He is a member of the Arbitration Committee of the Centre de Médiation et d’Arbitrage de Paris (CMAP), a board member and Treasurer of the Comité Français de l’Arbitrage (CFA), and a founding member of AfricArb (an association which promotes arbitration in Africa). He is the former co-chair of the CFA-40 and the ICC YAF representative for France, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

He also lectures on international arbitration at Science Po Law School (LL.M. in Transnational Arbitration and Dispute Settlement), and at Paris II Panthéon-Assas University (LL.M. AWArDS ‒ Assas World Arbitration and Disputes Settlement).

Fouchard authored the treatise Le droit français de l’arbitrage (alongside Matthieu de Boisséson and Jessica Madesclair) (Lextenso, Paris, 2023). He also regularly publishes articles in law journals (including the Revue de l’arbitrage) and speaks at international conferences on matters of arbitration law.
