The most significant change to patent law in the past 50 years is coming to Europe. On October 7, 2022, it was announced that the long-awaited Unified Patent Court (UPC) and the European Patent with Unitary Effect (Unitary Patent or UP) should become official on April 1, 2023, with the sunrise period beginning on January 1, 2023. This new system will significantly change the European patent landscape, and it should be at the top of your IP strategy.
Reed Smith Paris partners Marianne Schaffner and Thierry Lautier are presenting a series of podcasts about the coming changes and how to prepare your company. In this second episode, they provide key insights into what companies should do with their European patents. A key focus of the podcast is whether companies should enforce their European patents before the UPC or before the national courts.
Stay tuned for the third installment, in which the team will discuss what you need to do with your competitors’ European patents.
