The Guide explains how AI works; how AI is used across the various sectors that make up the broader entertainment industry; the geopolitical issues surrounding AI and media; the regulation of AI and how lawmakers are dealing with issues like deepfakes, and the wide-ranging commercial opportunities AI presents. The Reed Smith team also examines in detail some of the unique legal challenges that the growth of AI will create.

“AI may yet transform the world, surpassing the boundaries of human potential, and reshaping industries and economies on an unprecedented scale,” said Gregor Pryor, Reed Smith’s EME managing partner and member of the firm’s E&M Industry Group. He co-edited the whitepaper with group co-chairs Elle Todd and Steve Sessa.

“The law relating to AI, however, is in its nascent stage, albeit evolving rapidly in response to mounting global concerns. AI is pushing existing legal concepts to their limits, inventing new ones, and generally questioning the relationship between our legal systems and machines in an unprecedented manner. We have produced this Guide to help our clients improve their understanding of the legal implications surrounding AI in entertainment. It is neither intended to be exhaustive nor definitive, but offers a perspective into select issues that are at the heart of the ever-growing debate on AI,” added Pryor.
