Stegmaier is a partner in the firm’s Tech & Data Group. He focuses on corporate governance, consumer protection, intellectual property, information security, and privacy issues relating to digital assets and cryptocurrency. He also focuses on prelitigation and advisory services relating to business strategy for privacy by design, data protection, intellectual property, and emerging technologies and markets.
Stegmaier told the Washingtonian he thinks that the federal government’s strategy of holding tech executives personally accountable for company behavior may discourage transparency and accountability in the event of data security breaches.
It is the third consecutive year Stegmaier is receiving this accolade from the Washingtonian. In the last year, Stegmaier was named a BTI Client Service All-Star and ranked in Best Lawyers, Chambers, and Legal 500 directories.
When selecting individuals for this list, the Washingtonian looks for people who “have deep subject-matter expertise and significant understanding of how the nation’s capital works, with the goal of getting action” and who “understand the nuances and complexities of a particular issue area.”
The list appears in the May 2023 issue of the Washingtonian.
