Under the agreement, Uniper will offtake up to 500,000 tonnes per year of green ammonia from AM Green Ammonia’s projects in India. The first shipment is expected as early as 2028 from AM Green Ammonia’s first 1 million tonnes per year production facility currently under construction in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, India.
The transaction represents the first agreement of its kind providing for the long-term sale of green ammonia from India to Europe. It is a significant milestone for the development of international renewable hydrogen and ammonia supply chains and serves as a cornerstone of Uniper’s energy transition strategy, supporting the decarbonisation of the European energy market.
AM Green Ammonia is developing large-scale green ammonia production projects in India aimed at supplying global markets with renewable fuels. This agreement reflects growing demand from European utilities and industrial users for reliable, long-term supplies of RFNBO-compliant green molecules to meet climate and regulatory objectives.
The Reed Smith team advising on the transaction was led by James Atkin (Partner) and included Nicolas Walker (Partner, advising on EU regulatory matters) and Nicole Cheung (Associate).
