The EU Accessibility Act is now in force

From 28 June 2025, all new consumer-focused products and services offered in the EU must be accessible for persons with disabilities to comply with the requirements under the EU Accessibility Act (EAA).

As a reminder, here is a list of in-scope products and services:

  • computer hardware systems and operating systems
  • self-service terminals, such as ATMs, ticketing and check-in machines
  • smartphones
  • TV equipment related to digital television services
  • telephony services and related equipment
  • access to audio-visual media services such as television broadcast and related consumer equipment
  • services such as websites, mobile apps, e-tickets, transport service information related to air, bus, rail, and waterborne passenger transport
  • consumer banking services
  • e-books and dedicated software
  • e-commerce services

Microenterprises, i.e., organizations with less than 10 employees and a global turnover or annual balance sheet not exceeding EUR 2 million, may be exempt. An exemption may also apply if compliance would require a fundamental alteration to the product or service nature or impose a disproportionate burden on the economic operator.

From 28 June 2030, the EAA accessibility requirements will apply to all in-scope products and services.

The EAA comes into effect in June 2025. Are you ready?
