Smita focuses her practice on health care regulatory and corporate transactional matters, including health care regulatory diligence for acquisitions of physician practices and general regulatory compliance counseling for health care payor and provider organizations. Smita’s practice also focuses on privacy counseling for health care organizations, including HIPAA-regulated entities. She also supports health care organizations in identifying and assessing HIPAA and privacy security incidents and breaches, in addition to submitting required reporting to federal and state agencies.

Prior to joining Reed Smith, Smita was a legal intern with a company that provides payroll solutions. While attending University of California, Hastings College of the Law, she was a staff editor of Hastings Law Journal, served as a board member of the Student Health Advisory Committee, and was involved in the UC Hastings health law concentration program.
