Reed Smith lawyers have been involved in the LNG sector for over 30 years and have worked in every LNG market worldwide. Recently, the LNG sector has faced unprecedented change and volatility. Having been at the forefront of historic changes in the sector, we are able to support our clients and respond to changes quickly and effectively.
At the core of our LNG group are transactional, disputes, regulatory, and maritime and transportation lawyers. They are supported by market-leading lawyers from our broader industry groups of construction, environmental and ESG, finance, planning, and trading. We also have complementary industry-focused experience in our antitrust and competition, patent, sanctions, and tax teams across a number of jurisdictions.
With a growing and global reach, our lawyers are well embedded across all aspects of the LNG sector. That work includes advising clients on first-of-a-kind LNG export and import projects around the world (both floating and onshore), LNG import terminal expansions, long-, medium-, and short-term LNG sales globally, as well as niche matters such as commissioning LNG facilities and terminal operating manuals. This broad industry experience is truly global, spanning major projects across North and Central America, Africa, Australia, Europe, and the Middle East.
In the highly complex LNG shipping arena, we advise clients on the drafting and negotiation of LNG carrier and FSRU bareboat and time charters, shipbuilding contracts, and sale and purchase agreements related to the carriage of LNG by sea, acting for either the prospective owners, charterers, or financiers of LNG carriers. We have advised clients on numerous – often technical – LNG shipping disputes, and increasingly advise on emerging areas such as bio-LNG.
