December 2, 2015 – Reed Smith LLP today announced the addition of Danielle Carbone as a partner in the firm’s Corporate & Transactional Advisory Group in New York, where she will lead the firm’s capital markets team. Carbone, a nationally recognized capital markets lawyer with more than 25 years of experience, was most recently a partner at Shearman & Sterling, where she spent her entire career. With the addition of Carbone, New York remains one of Reed Smith’s fastest-growing offices, adding 22 lawyers this year alone.

“Danielle brings incredible capabilities and leadership to Reed Smith’s Capital Markets practice,” said David Boutcher, Global Head of Reed Smith’s Business and Finance Department. “We are blessed with a platform that has driven a disproportionate amount of capital markets work our way and we are committed to building a world-class practice in that area. Danielle will be a key player in ensuring that we achieve that goal. We have a leading capital markets practice in Hong Kong and we plan to be among the market leaders in key financial centers.”

Carbone represents issuers and underwriters in capital-raising transactions, including IPOs, investment grade debt offerings and other SEC-registered and privately placed securities offerings. She has represented public companies in tender offers and exchange offers and has advised privately held emerging growth companies and venture funds in venture capital financings. She also counsels corporate clients on securities law compliance and corporate governance issues. Thomas J. Sabatino, Senior Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel at the Hertz Corporation, praised the move, saying that, “Danielle has been the capital markets lawyer of choice for some of the most sophisticated lawyers in my legal departments over the years and she will give Reed Smith instant credibility in that area.”

She has particular experience in the health care sector, which complements the firm’s Life Sciences Health Industry Group, one of Reed Smith’s five industry focus areas. The firm handles health care regulatory, transactional and disputes matters for clients in every facet of the global health care industry, and has advised and represented clients affected by every significant health care-related development.

“We’re delighted to add another senior corporate lawyer to the New York office,” said Douglas Wood, Office Managing Partner of Reed Smith’s New York office. “Danielle is a go-to person for both companies and underwriters in major – and repeated – capital market transactions, and her experience will be of great benefit to the firm’s private equity fund and corporate clients. Reed Smith’s global platform, strong financial services practice and leading life sciences practice are a perfect fit for Danielle.”

Carbone earned her J.D. cum laude from Washington College of Law, The American University, where she was a member of the law review, and her B.A. magna cum laude from Boston College. In 2014, she was honored with a Lawyer Monthly “Women in Law Award.”
