December 6, 2016 – The Financial Times (FT) has honored Reed Smith’s pro bono Middle East refugee protection project with two important distinctions in the FT North America Innovative Lawyers Report for 2016.

Related Professionals: Jayne E. Fleming

  • Pro bono counsel and project leader, Jayne E. Fleming, was named among the top ten “Legal Innovators of the Year.” As the FT report noted:

“Ms. Fleming spearheaded the firm’s Middle East Middle East refugee protection project, taking the concept of the mobile clinic a step further to bring together lawyers, doctors, interpreters and advocates to support refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraqi Kurdistan and three Greek islands.”

  • Reed Smith’s pro bono refugee protection project also received the second-highest overall score for a social responsibility project in 2016. From the FT:

“Using the mobile legal clinic framework by the firm in Haiti, it has assembled professionals to provide legal, medical and mental health support as well shelter and subsistence to vulnerable refugees in the Middle East. It continues to advocate for new protection mechanisms and a new global architecture to support refugees.”

Now in its seventh year of publication, and covering the US, Canada and Mexico, the FT North America Innovative Lawyers Report is one of the top legal rankings in the region. Based on “thorough research and robust journalism,” the report represents a unique analysis of the legal industry, assessing lawyers on their innovation, both for clients and in their own businesses.
