PHILADELPHIA – Reed Smith today announced that James A. Petkun has joined the firm as Counsel in its Global Regulatory Enforcement practice.  James joins the firm from the U.S. Department of Justice, where he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Offices in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. for eight years.

James brings the perspective of a former federal prosecutor to his defense of companies and individuals involved in criminal and other government investigations and related white-collar/civil litigation.  An experienced trial lawyer skilled in leading complex investigations, his practice focuses on representing clients in a wide variety of white-collar criminal matters, False Claims Act (FCA) and qui tam litigation, matters under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), Food Drug and Cosmetic Act (FDCA), and Anti-Kickback statute, as well as other federal/state investigations brought by prosecutors, state attorneys general, and regulators.

James’ practice focuses on representing companies and organizations, boards of directors, internal committees, officers, corporate management, and other individuals across industry sectors including healthcare, pharma, technology, telecom, manufacturing, and financial services.
