“We are excited to have Angela join our team. Her addition is part of our effort to strategically expand our debt financing capabilities to support our growing private equity and corporate transactional practice. She has extensive experience in private equity borrower-side transactions, reserve-based lending and energy-related financings that our global clients will find valuable,” said Matt Mohn, co-chair of the firm’s Global Corporate Group and chair of its U.S. Corporate Group. “We have been rapidly expanding our group, recently opening offices in Atlanta and Denver that have expanded our private equity, financing and technology capabilities. Angela’s knowledge of structured products and securities offerings will also expand our bespoke work in the crypto and digital securities spaces.”
Hagerman’s practice is focused on leveraged finance, with a particular focus on debt transactions within the energy and natural resources and technology sectors. She represents private equity funds and their portfolio companies, commercial borrowers, financial institutions and private credit and alternative capital providers in complex financings, both domestic and cross-border. Hagerman also regularly advises clients on general corporate matters, credit facility compliance and market trends.
“Reed Smith is a perfect fit, as the firm has sought and acquired key talent to build a truly global transactional platform,” said Hagerman. “I am excited to dive in and contribute to the firm’s continued growth, particularly in the energy, cryptocurrency and digital securities spaces.”
Her arrival at the Houston office follows that of Annie Peetz, who joined from Kirkland & Ellis last year. Peetz has played a key role in advising clients on crypto and bitcoin matters, successfully guiding three offerings in the past month, while simultaneously strengthening the firm’s leadership and capabilities in this rapidly expanding market.
“We have been steadily building our corporate practice in Houston and are now accelerating those efforts. Angela’s addition to our team is an important part of our overall growth strategy,” said Houston Office Managing Partner Chris Watt. “In addition to her private equity practice, Angela’s experience in the energy industry will be an asset to our clients both in Houston and globally. She has worked extensively on transactions in the renewables sector, as well as on midstream oil and gas deals.”
Hagerman holds a J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where she was recognized as a Dean’s Fellow; an M.A., cum laude, from Wake Forest University, where she was a William Randolph Hearst Scholar; and a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
