Steve boasts a wealth of experience as a healthcare litigator and regulatory attorney. Within the realm of litigation, Steve represents health insurers and various healthcare entities in complex individual, multi-party and class action managed-care cases in courts and arbitrations across the country. These matters span a wide spectrum, including cases involving ERISA, RICO, the Affordable Care Act, claims-denials, prompt pay, bad faith, breach of contract, and a variety of common law claims. As a seasoned trial lawyer, he has overseen all facets of cases, including serving as both first and second chair in numerous trials and arbitration hearings, in addition to crafting persuasive appellate briefs and presenting compelling arguments.
In the arena of regulatory issues, Steve possesses an extensive depth of knowledge advising health insurers and other healthcare entities through intricate regulatory and compliance issues. He routinely provides counsel to health insurers on day-to-day and industry changing regulatory and compliance issues that shape the industry landscape. Steve assists clients with risk mitigation through the creation and implementation of policies and procedures to enhance legal compliance programs, including medical software licensing agreements, administrative service agreements, state licensing requirements, network management, data privacy, overpayment recoveries, and commercial agreements with pharmaceutical drug manufacturers.
Steve’s extensive knowledge extends to representing and advising government-sponsored managed care organizations, including Medicare Advantage Organizations and Medicaid managed care organizations. He assists these plans in navigating regulatory and compliance issues, handling internal investigations, government investigations, False Claims Act and qui tam cases, and other enforcement actions.
While earning his law degree from DePaul University College of Law, Steve received CALI Awards for Excellence in Trial Advocacy, Securities Fraud, and Litigation Strategy and Civil Litigation. He also had the privilege of serving as a judicial extern to the Honorable Wayne R. Andersen in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
