As counsel to employers, Joey litigates employment claims, advises clients on sensitive employment issues, and reviews and drafts company policies and agreements.
Joey represents employers in litigation and administrative actions concerning both federal and state labor and employment laws, including defending employers against claims of discrimination, retaliation, wrongful discharge, and whistleblower allegations. Joey also has experience defending employers against Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) collective actions and state law wage and hour class actions. Additionally, Joey represents employers on both sides of the docket in non-compete and trade secret misappropriation matters.
Along with his active litigation practice, Joey advises clients on a range of employment issues including new hire practices and documentation, applicable leave laws, requests for accommodation, and employee separation and layoffs. Joey also routinely drafts and audits employment-related documents, including employee handbooks, company policies, settlement and release agreements, and employment agreements. To help ensure policy becomes workplace practice, Joey collaborates with human resources personnel to roll out new company policies. Further, Joey advises clients on the labor and employment aspects of corporate transactions.
Joey represents clients in many sectors, including but not limited to, air transport, telecommunications, retail and E-commerce, food production, and construction.
Apart from his day-to-day practice, Joey regularly provides pro bono legal services to various non-profit organizations. While in law school, Joey served as an Executive Editor on Alabama Law Review.
