Alexander advises energy and natural resources companies and commodity trading companies on both contentious and non-contentious matters in relation to the mining, trading and transportation of bulk commodities. A significant part of his practice is early dispute management and the provision of on-going advice in relation to the performance of long-term high value contracts.
Alexander also advises shipyards on contentious and non-contentious shipbuilding and offshore matters relating to the construction and provision of innovative equipment, ships and services for the offshore and mining markets.
In addition, Alexander has experience of advising funds and private equity clients in relation to the sale and purchase of ships, pooling and vessel sharing arrangements.
Alexander has extensive experience of international arbitrations, including arbitrations under ICC, LCIA, HKIAC, LMAA, GAFTA and FOSFA Rules. In addition, Alexander advises clients on disputes before the English High Court.
The Legal 500 describes Alexander as “exceptional”.
Alexander regularly speaks at seminars and provides training for clients on English law issues around the world. He has contributed a chapter on the use of “certificate final” clauses in international trade to “Maritime Law Evolving” (2013).
Before qualifying as a solicitor Alexander was a lecturer in maritime law at the University of Southampton, specialising in international trade law and commercial conflict of laws.
