Magruder provides clear and practical guidance on premerger notification compliance and has extensive experience preparing competition filings and obtaining competition approvals across jurisdictions. He also counsels clients on antitrust compliance and risk allocation. His practice includes evaluating the competitive effects of proposed transactions and advocating before the Federal Trade Commission and the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.

Magruder routinely represents multinational corporate clients, venture capital firms, private equity firms, and hedge funds on complex investments and transactions. His experience spans a wide range of industries, including automotive, construction, energy, franchising, fintech and financial services, health care, hospitality, insurance, manufacturing, media and entertainment, mining, pharma, real estate, retail and consumer goods, shipping and last-mile transportation, spirits, technology, and telecommunications.
Magruder joins Reed Smith from Paul Weiss. He previously practiced at Jones Day and worked at multiple antitrust agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice and the D.C. and Maryland state attorneys general offices. He earned his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law and his B.S., summa cum laude, from Drake University.
