SAN FRANCISCO – Global law firm Reed Smith today announced that the Daily Journal has named San Francisco partner Jonah D. Mitchell to its 2026 list of Top Intellectual Property Lawyers in California. The annual recognition honors leading California lawyers whose work in patent, copyright, and trademark law is shaping innovation and the future of intellectual property litigation.

Mitchell, a partner in Reed Smith’s global Intellectual Property Group, was recognized for his leadership in high-stakes patent and technology disputes. A profile of Mitchell published today by the Daily Journal highlighted his continuing representation of Keysight Technologies in the sprawling, cross-border patent litigation against Centripetal Networks spanning the U.S. International Trade Commission, Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), Federal Circuit, Unified Patent Court, European Patent Office, and German national courts. Over the course of the dispute, Mitchell and his teams secured victories on all asserted patents across multiple forums, including findings of noninfringement and invalidity, PTAB decisions invalidating 185 patent claims, and favorable rulings in the United States and Europe.

The Daily Journal also singled out Mitchell’s work on complex commercial and patent disputes involving emerging technologies, wireless communications, and multi-forum litigation strategy.

“I’m honored to be recognized by the Daily Journal alongside so many talented practitioners,” Mitchell said. “The matters we handle today are increasingly global, technical, and fast-moving, and the success we’ve achieved reflects the strength of our clients, our collaborative teams, and Reed Smith’s ability to coordinate sophisticated litigation strategies across jurisdictions.”

This is the second year that Mitchell has appeared on the Daily Journal’s exclusive list of the year’s top IP lawyers in California, having previously appeared on the 2024 list. Mitchell has also been recognized in the IAM Patent 1000 for multiple consecutive years for his work in patent litigation.

“After more than 25 years of litigating IP cases at Reed Smith, Jonah has emerged as one of the leading patent litigators of his generation,” said Pete Chassman, chair of Reed Smith’s Intellectual Property Group. “His ability to manage sophisticated, multi-jurisdictional disputes while delivering practical, business-focused results for clients sets him apart. This recognition is exceptionally well deserved.”

Reed Smith’s global Intellectual Property Group advises innovative companies across industries on complex patent, trade secret, copyright, trademark, and technology disputes, as well as strategic IP transactions and portfolio management.
