LONDON - Global law firm Reed Smith has retained 11 of its 12 qualifying trainees, achieving a 92% retention rate in its September 2026 qualification round.

The newly qualified solicitors will join a range of practice groups across the firm's London office, including Employment, Transportation, Global Commercial Disputes, Financial Industry Group, Corporate (Tax), Corporate/Competition, Real Estate, Entertainment & Media, and Energy & Natural Resources.

All retained trainees have accepted permanent positions with the firm.

The strong retention rate reflects Reed Smith's continued commitment to attracting, developing and retaining exceptional legal talent through its Early Careers programmes. The firm's training contract programme is designed to equip aspiring lawyers with the legal, commercial and client-facing skills needed to build successful careers in a global law firm.

David Ashmore, Training Principal at Reed Smith, said:

"We are delighted to welcome this talented group of newly qualified solicitors to the firm. Retaining 11 of our 12 qualifying trainees is a fantastic outcome and reflects both the calibre of our trainees and the strength of our Early Careers programmes. Throughout their training contracts, these individuals have demonstrated exceptional dedication, commercial awareness and legal ability, and we look forward to supporting them as they continue to develop their careers with us. Investing in future talent is central to our long-term success, and we remain committed to creating opportunities for aspiring lawyers to build rewarding careers at Reed Smith."

The September 2026 qualification round comes ahead of the launch of Reed Smith's Solicitor Apprenticeship Programme, which will welcome its first cohort in September 2026. The programme will provide an additional pathway into the legal profession and further demonstrates the firm's commitment to developing the next generation of Reed Smith talent and building a strong pipeline of future lawyers.
