Alexander W. Raap

Alexander plays an integral role in the cases he is a part of by conducting discovery, drafting and arguing substantive motions, taking and defending depositions, and working with employers to develop creative legal strategies that effectively resolve employment disputes. Alexander’s experience encompasses all phases of litigation, which includes successfully resolving matters before litigation in state and federal courts and in mediation. He also has experience counselling clients on issues outside of the courtroom, including on compliance with state and federal employment laws, pay transparency requirements, hiring and separation decisions, internal investigations, and reviewing employers’ policies and procedures.

Alexander recognizes that the landscape of employment law is constantly evolving and devotes diligent attention to monitoring and reviewing new legislation and regulations. He remains at the forefront of novel issues affecting employers by researching new legal developments and giving presentations about his findings, including, for example, those concerning the legalization of cannabis for recreational use in New Jersey and pay transparency requirements recently signed into New Jersey state law.

Before joining Reed Smith, Alexander worked as an employment litigator for a global law firm that specializes in employment law.  Alexander also worked as a commercial litigator for a well-regarded New Jersey regional law firm representing clients in a variety of different commercial and employment disputes. Alexander clerked for the Honorable Jose L. Fuentes, P.J.A.D. following his graduation from law school. As a result, Alexander has a valuable insight into judicial and legal processes and applies this perspective in proactively and efficiently representing employers.
