Counsel

Matt is a counsel in Reed Smith’s private funds group. His practice covers a wide range of transactional and investment work, including the formation, operation and restructuring of private funds (across the private equity, tangible asset, credit and real estate sectors), indirect investments, secondary sales, joint ventures, and managed accounts. Matt advises pension schemes and state plans, institutional investors, and family offices on their managed account and fund investments across the range of investment sectors in Europe, China and India.

Experience

Representative matters

Launching an Irish umbrella ICAV focused on originating commercial real estate loans with a €250 million managed account sub-fund established for a global real estate firm and a €400 million pooled sub-fund.
Launching concurrent €100 million ‘sister’ funds targeting investments in Polish and Portuguese light industrial and commercial real estate and structured to raise capital through equity subscriptions, bond issues and bank debt.
Winding-up a £650 million closed-ended UK property fund with a portfolio of core retail assets; advising the operator on regulatory and contractual duties.
