In response to the global needs of its clients, Reed Smith is pleased to announce its 2009 "Business Culture" teleseminar programs, a series of programs focused on cultural issues that companies should understand when conducting business in the global marketplace.  The experience of the attorneys in our 23 offices in the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East positions us to assist in helping you to navigate the global landscape.

Our first teleseminar will focus on "The Business Culture in France."  France's unique culture can create both opportunities and challenges for companies conducting business in the region.  Understanding the relevant business culture as it relates to business relations, negotiations, and social interactions can have a dramatic effect on the ability to successfully access the French market.  Our program will include discussion on:

  • The importance of relationships in French business
  • Hierarchy and power in companies
  • Meeting and negotiating tips
  • Success stories (and failures), and do's and don'ts when conducting business with French counterparts

Our presenters have extensive first-hand experience working with businesses, investors and government departments in France.

Jean-Nicholas Soret, a partner in Reed Smith's Paris office, is an experienced corporate lawyer advising on M&A and private equity transactions, as well as on joint ventures, company transfers, general corporate law and securities law matters.  Clara Zerbib, a partner in the Paris office, has extensive experience in general commercial litigation and arbitration. She is a skilled advocate and appears regularly before all levels of French Courts throughout France, from the Commercial Courts to the Courts of Appeal.  Peter R. Alfandary, a partner in our London office and Dean of Reed Smith University School of Business Development, is a frequent speaker on cross-cultural business awareness, and will moderate this lively discussion.
