Why you should attend
Attorneys admitted to the New York State Bar are required to complete 16 hours of approved continuing legal education courses per year during the first two years of admission, including three credit hours of approved continuing legal education in ethics/professionalism, six credit hours in skills, and seven credit hours in professional practice and/or law practice management.
PLI’s Bridge-the-Gap I and II programs contain separate course offerings and may be taken in either order. By attending PLIs two-day Bridge-the-Gap program, you can satisfy all of your annual MCLE requirements for newly admitted attorneys. By attending PLI’s one-day Bridge-the-Gap : Ethics and Skills for Newly Admitted Attorneys, you can fulfill your ethics and skills requirements.
Reed Smith's Vincent Martorana will present on "Fundamental Concepts in Drafting Contracts: What Most Attorneys Fail to Consider" including:
- Identifying and using effectively categories of contract-drafting language, including language of performance, language of obligation, discretionary language, representations, acknowledgments, and language of policy
- Addressing more-nuanced concepts in contract drafting, such: active voice vs. passive voice; conditional language; language of exception and subordination; the concept of “deemed”; references to time; and ambiguities associated with “and” and “or.”
- Discussing practicalities relating to contract drafting and dispelling myths surrounding legal archaisms
