Global law firm Reed Smith has today announced the appointment of two new partners to its growing Singapore office. Singaporean Partners Calvin Chan and Kohe Hasan have joined the firm’s Energy and Natural Resources Group, from Skadden and Oon & Bazul respectively.
Calvin Chan is an international commercial arbitration and disputes lawyer who also advises clients in relation to Foreign Corrupt Practices Act matters and investigations. He has particular expertise in Greater China and South East Asia, and in the energy and natural resources, life sciences and healthcare sectors.
Kohe Hasan is also an international commercial arbitration and disputes lawyer who primarily advises clients in disputes in the infrastructure, shipping, energy, mining and commodities sectors, with a focus on Indonesia, Malaysia and the Indochina region. She has advised clients on the acquisition and financing aspects of numerous energy and infrastructure projects including mine acquisition, concession agreements and power generation assets.
Since opening in Singapore in 2012, Reed Smith has continued to expand its Southeast Asia practice, particularly in the areas of energy and natural resources, shipping, international arbitration, finance and restructuring in line with global expansion. Calvin’s and Kohe’s arrival brings the team to 19 lawyers (including nine partners) and follows the recent appointments of Restructuring Partner Troy Doyle, Corporate Partner Matt Gorman and Corporate Counsel Gerald Licnachan.

Supporting clients in the energy and natural resources sector was one of the key drivers for Reed Smith’s opening in Singapore. In 2013, the firm strengthened its capabilities with the arrival of partner Charles Ball to head the firm's Indonesia Group, and Calvin's and Kohe's regional expertise builds on this.

The firm’s expansion into Singapore and Houston (in October 2012 and January 2013, respectively) gives the firm strength in depth to support the firm’s clients in the sector from these regional hubs.
The group has added 20 new partners in the past three years. Most recently, with the arrival of Commodities Futures Trading Partner Peter Malyshev (who joins the firm’s Washington D.C. office from Latham & Watkins) and Partner David Adelman (former United States ambassador to Singapore and managing director at Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong and Singapore) who, although based in New York, regularly travels to Asia to support the development of the Singapore office.
