Pitts takes the reins from senior counsel David Thompson, who is now leading the integration effort for Reed Smith’s newest office in Dallas. The opening of Reed Smith’s Dallas office, its third in Texas, was announced yesterday.
“David and I are so pleased that Paul has agreed to lead our office in San Francisco,” said Reed Smith Global Managing Partner Sandy Thomas. “Paul has been with Reed Smith in the Bay Area for more than 13 years, and he is recognized as one of the leading health law lawyers in California for his busy practice and thought leadership.”
Pitts advises health care providers and life science companies on a wide range of business transactions and regulatory compliance matters. Plans for the office include building on Reed Smith’s continuing success in the Bay Area, and strengthening strategic relationships among the firm’s California offices in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and Century City.
“Reed Smith’s San Francisco office has been a great place for me to develop my practice and leadership skills,” Pitts said. “I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to help advance the firm’s brand and reputation for innovation and excellence in client service from San Francisco.”
“Paul is gracious, talented, and just the right person for the job,” said Thompson, who was previously San Francisco office managing partner from 2005 to 2012. Thompson also led the integration of the firm’s Houston office – from the time it opened in 2013, until 2015 – returning to his role to oversee the San Francisco office in 2016.
“We are delighted that David Thompson has agreed to return to Texas to lead the integration of our new Dallas office,” Thomas said. “David is a positive force for growing our Dallas presence in the Reed Smith way. I know he will have the same success in growing our third office in Texas as he did in Houston, six years ago.”
Pitts, who was elevated to partner at Reed Smith in 2012, is recognized by Chambers USA as a top Health Care lawyer for California. He is an active Member of the American Bar Association’s Health Law Section and Health Lawyers Association, as well as the California Society for Healthcare Attorneys. He is a member of the firm’s LGBT+ business inclusion group and an advocate for promoting inclusion and diversity within the legal profession.
Pitts serves on the Board of Directors of HealthRight360, an innovative nonprofit that provides compassionate care and treatment to over 38,000 individuals a year in 13 California counties. He received his J.D. from Tulane Law School in 2003, and a Master’s in Health Administration from Tulane University’s School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine that same year. He also holds undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Business Management from Purdue University.
