“Todd is highly regarded in the structured finance and securitization sector for his innovative approach and comprehensive knowledge of the applicable laws and market practices that are specific to those complex transactions,” said James Tandler, co-chair of the Reed Smith Global Corporate Group. “A recognized tax leader in the real estate and debt capital markets space, he adds great firepower to our capabilities. We’re thrilled to have him on board.”
Anderson’s practice focuses on the wide array of tax aspects related to structured finance transactions, including asset, mortgage and real estate transactions. He structures highly driven tax-sensitive transactions, and advises investment banks, hedge funds, private equity funds, venture capital funds, real estate partnerships, asset managers, and loan originators and servicers.
“I’ve been working with Todd for several years. He is a recognized leader in tax issues surrounding loan origination in the U.S.,” said Jodi Schwimmer, global co-chair of Reed Smith’s Financial Industry Group. “Together we are a team that offers the highest level of service on structured finance transactions to clients ranging from hedge funds to large institutional clients.”
Anderson has been co-counseling with Schwimmer on significant deals for the past several years and the two lawyers share a large number of clients. In addition, he will be rejoining Randy Eckers and Sam Lee, colleagues at a prior firm, who joined Reed Smith’s Real Estate practice in February with a large team of attorneys from Akerman LLP.
“I have been interested in returning to a full-service law firm in order to provide my clients with a broader range of services,” Anderson said. “I’m very excited about the prospect of working on a global platform and servicing large institutional financial services companies.”
Anderson founded Anderson Tax & Finance Law in 2016, serving as managing member until earlier this year. He began his career at Testa Hurwitz & Tibeault in 1998, moving to PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2003, before joining Thacher, Proffitt & Wood in 2004. He practiced at Dentons from 2005 to 2015.
“The firm is seeing increasing demand from clients for advice with structured finance and securitization matters,” said Cindy Minniti, Reed Smith’s New York office managing partner. “Todd brings a broad range of experience that will help us better serve our clients’ needs and will allow us to further grow this practice.”
Anderson earned a B.S. from Boston College Carroll School of Management, his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School, and an LL.M. in tax from New York University School of Law.
