One Reed Smith team advised and supported China’s Tsingshan group through a “black swan” LME nickel market disruption event precipitated by the Russia-Ukraine war. The team comprised partners Johnny Lim (Singapore), Delpha Ho and Tat Pan (Hong Kong and Shanghai), and Claude Brown, Chris Borg, Marjorie Holmes and Kathleen Garrett (London), who successfully negotiated for and secured standstill arrangements with various key financial institutions, as widely reported by leading news and media outlets.

Another team represented Reignwood Group in its Shanghai Shipyard contract dispute in both UK Supreme Court and Hong Kong Court. A litigation team led by partners Min Li (Hong Kong) and Charles Weller (London), with support from the ship finance team led by partner Peter Lee (Hong Kong), acted for Reignwood International Investment Group Co. to oppose a winding-up petition presented against the company in Hong Kong by Shanghai Shipyard Co. regarding the enforcement of a UK Court of Appeal judgement about a shipbuilding performance guarantee, and we continue to work with Reignwood as the case is appealed before the UK Supreme Court.

The China Business Law Journal‘s Deals of the Year issue celebrates transactional and case-based work at its very best and honors law firms that had the biggest successes navigating intricate regulations and laws to arrive at winning deals and cases.
