After lengthy and controversial discussions, German parliament eventually resolved changes to the German Federal Data Protection Act (Bundesdatenschutzgesetz—“BDSG”) in the beginning of July 2009. The German Bundestag and the German Bundesrat finally approved the amendments to the BDSG in the final legislative sessions before the general elections in the fall of this year.
