Christian W. Castile

Christian is well-versed in managing complex litigation, from inception through trial, including all aspects of discovery. He has developed and executed innovative defense strategies that have proven successful in a variety of settings, including the presentation of witnesses and closing arguments to federal juries.

Christian’s practice further includes extensive work alongside medical and non-medical experts to craft and execute defense strategies that are both legally sound and scientifically robust. In particular, his familiarity with and access to medical experts, including physicians and biomedical engineers, enables him to fully immerse himself in the science of his cases and successfully argue for the exclusion of opposing expert witnesses.

In addition to his extensive trial work, Christian understands the value of the dispute resolution process. He has led clients through judicial and non-judicial mediations with a commitment to exploring alternative avenues for dispute resolution, such as mediation and arbitration, in addition to traditional litigation.

Christian is a committed advocate for diversity and inclusion. He serves as the Associate Chair of PRISM, the firm's LGBTQ+ business inclusion group, and as a member of the Mental Health Task Force, where he is trained as a Mental Health First Responder and Mental Health First Aider. In addition, he serves on the Diversity Committee.

Christian's commitment to diversity extends beyond his work at Reed Smith. He serves on the board of trustees of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation, Philadelphia’s philanthropic hub for access to justice and the only foundation in Philadelphia solely dedicated to supporting the city's legal services community. Christian is also an alumni of The Leadership Council On Legal Diversity's Pathfinder program, which is designed to increase diversity in the legal profession, and was a Philadelphia Diversity Law Group fellow. Within the Defense Research Institution (DRI), Christian served as a mentee in the DRI Diverse Rainmaker Mentoring Program. He also served as a member of both the Diversity Scholarship Selection Committee and the LGBTQ+ Subcommittee.

Christian maintains an extensive pro bono practice representing indigent clients in a variety of areas. He is most regularly involved in cases advocating for incarcerated clients seeking justice for violations of their civil rights. This work has earned Christian recognition, including from the Allegheny County Bar Foundation’s Pro Bono Achievement Awards 2022 Reception.

Prior to joining the firm, Christian served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Robert LeBlanc of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He also gained experience prosecuting criminal cases in Quincy District Court in Quincy, Massachusetts.
