Rhys is a senior associate in the Global Commercial Disputes Group and has 9 years’ experience in the UAE advising on all aspects of commercial disputes across the Middle East. Rhys is experienced in the technology, life sciences and hospitality sectors.
His core areas of practice are international arbitration, enforcement and debt recovery, re/insurance and contentious recoveries, and contentious regulatory. Rhys also advises on cross-border jurisdictional issues, injunctive relief, JV and shareholder disputes, bankruptcy, trade, sanctions and general commercial disputes.
Rhys advises multinational and regional parties in ICC, DIAC, LCIA, DIFC-LCIA, SIAC, and LMAA arbitral proceedings.
Rhys has extensive experience advising clients in the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts (DIFCC), acting in several of the most high-profile cases and jurisdiction defining issues. Recent highlights include advising on injunctions against DIFC and non-DIFC based entities, shareholder disputes, obtaining information orders against company officers and advising on multi-jurisdictional liquidation proceedings.
Rhys has advised on issues and court proceedings throughout the GCC and Middle East. His practice includes advice and claims against governmental or government owned entities, enforcement of judgments and arbitral awards, termination of contracts and projects, JV, shareholder and director disputes, subrogated and contentious recoveries and matters before the UAE Supreme Court.
Rhys also acts as a guest lecturer at the DIFC Academy of Law and contributed to legal commentary in the Academy’s ‘Laws of the DIFC’.
