Michalis is an associate in the EU Antitrust & Competition practice in our Brussels Office, advising on all aspects of EU and international competition law, merger control, FDI, FSR, EU state aid and EU regulatory law. Michalis has advised international clients from a wide range of sectors, including energy, automotive, consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, natural resources, petrochemicals, transport and shipping, and media.
Michalis has extensive experience advising on the merger control, FDI and FSR aspects of acquisitions, with a strong track record in the energy and automotive sectors, successfully securing clearances for multi-jurisdictional mergers. Michalis also advises companies across the value chain and trade associations on day to day antitrust issues, including information exchange, joint ventures, distribution agreements, and pricing practices.
In addition, Michalis defends clients in antitrust and regulatory investigations, with a focus on the energy sector. On the regulatory side, Michalis has advised gas and energy businesses on public procurement rules. Michalis also regularly authors publications on competition law and regulatory topics, in particular in the energy sector, and ESG.
Prior to joining the firm, Michalis worked in a State aid unit at the European Commission’s DG Competition, where he gained experience on matters ranging from the hydrogen value chain to carbon capture and storage technologies. He was also involved in the drafting of energy-related State aid frameworks. Through this insight, Michalis helps clients anticipate enforcement priorities and shape compliant solutions.
