Maritza M. Torres counsels clients on employment issues. Maritza drafts pleadings, motions, discovery, and memoranda for a variety of litigation and administrative matters related to labor, employment, and occupational safety and health for public and private clients. She also drafts employment policies, procedures, handbooks, and severance agreements; conducts workplace investigations and risk assessments; and also assesses risk from an employment perspective for potential mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to joining Reed Smith, Maritza was most recently the Assistant General Counsel for Merakey, one of the largest non-profit human services providers in the country, where she provided legal advice and ensured compliance with federal, state and local laws related to labor, employment, healthcare, privacy and non-profit organizations.
While in law school, Maritza was a San Mateo County Women Lawyers’ Section Scholar, a Corporate Counsel Women of Color Scholar, a Latina Lawyers Bar Association Scholar, and a Keker & Van Nest LLP Diversity Scholar. She was also the co-chair of Berkeley Law’s La Raza Law Students’ Association.
