(February 14, 2008, Philadelphia, PA)  Claudia Z. Springer, Managing Partner of Reed Smith’s Philadelphia office, has been named to the Board of Directors of the National Liberty Museum.  The museum works to defuse violence and bigotry by celebrating America’s heritage of freedom and tolerance.  Its exhibits and programs celebrate democracy and honor the many ordinary people throughout the U.S. and the world who have made a positive impact on society.

“I am really delighted to be taking a more active part in this wonderful institution,” said Claudia Springer. “I consider the concepts of breaking down barriers and eliminating hatred which is the core of the Museum’s mission to be very important for the future of our society.”

The National Liberty Museum was founded in 2000 by Irvin J. Borowsky, and has an extensive collection of glass sculpture on display as well as original Chagall paintings and bronzes.  Mr. Borowsky believes that glass is uniquely representative of the fragile nature of liberty:  strong but when broken, it is nearly impossible to put back together. The museum is the first institution in the world to correlate freedom with glass.

“It is with great pleasure that I welcome Claudia Springer to the Board of the National Liberty Museum,” said Gwen Borowsky, CEO of the National Liberty Museum.  “She joins our group of the most accomplished attorneys in Philadelphia, and her contributions to our efforts will be greatly appreciated.”

In addition to her responsibilities as Managing Partner of Reed Smith’s Philadelphia office, Claudia is an active member of the firm’s Commercial Restructuring & Bankruptcy practice group.  She has been acknowledged as one of America’s leading insolvency and corporate restructuring attorneys by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers every year since its initial publication in 2003.  In addition, Claudia has been recognized as one of the nation’s top restructuring and bankruptcy lawyers in America’s Best Lawyers.

Claudia is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia chapter of The Turnaround Management Association, the only international non-profit association dedicated to corporate renewal and turnaround management.

“Giving back to the community is very important to me personally and to Reed Smith,” said Claudia. “Firm wide our attorneys contribute more than 50,000 hours of pro bono service each year.  Being named to the Board of the National Liberty Museum is very special, and I hope that others will be encouraged to contribute their time to the many worthwhile nonprofit organizations in the Delaware Valley.”
