(March 23, 2010, Philadelphia, PA) – Reed Smith today announced the addition of the former General Counsel of Wyeth, Lawrence V. Stein as Counsel working from the firm’s Philadelphia and Washington offices, effective immediately.

“Larry brings us outstanding experience in the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors,” said Mike Scott, a partner in Reed Smith’s Philadelphia office who represented Wyeth for many years and has worked closely with Mr. Stein.  “Having been in the hot seat as a GC for so many years, Larry brings a unique perspective and a real understanding of the pressures and challenges facing corporations in those industries and others.”

Prior to joining Wyeth, Mr. Stein was Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Genetics Institute Inc. Before that, he was a partner with Arnold & Porter.

“My personal experience, from many years working with Reed Smith, is that the lawyers at the firm are particularly client focused and dedicated to serving the client’s needs, whatever those needs might be,” said Mr. Stein.  “That client service model and an impressive array of legal talent made Reed Smith attractive to me, for years as outside counsel, and now as a place to resume private legal practice.”

“We've had the pleasure of working with Larry for years in his role as general counsel of Wyeth, and it's a privilege to have him join Reed Smith,” said Ajay Raju, managing partner of the firm’s Philadelphia office.  “Needless to say, Larry is one of the pre-eminent figures in the bio-tech and pharmaceutical sectors, and his distinguished background in these areas makes him an ideal addition to our firm. He will be able to advise clients on a broad range of issues that impact businesses across a variety of sectors.”

Mr. Stein received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1976, where he was on the Board of Editors of the Law Review. He received an A.B., cum laude, from Columbia College in 1971 and an M.A. from Cornell University in 1974.  Mr. Stein is a member of the Association of General Counsel; a member of the District of Columbia Bar; the bars of the U.S. Supreme Court and various federal courts.
