Using Reed Smith’s SharePoint solution, known as ouRSite, the firm worked with the Ricoh legal department to develop an improved and highly effective case management system that allows the company to handle a variety of legal related matters, including agency charges and single plaintiff litigation. Since its implementation, Ricoh has reduced its active paper files by 90 percent, and reporting time by more than 60 percent.
Peter M. Ellis, chair of Reed Smith’s Complex Litigation Group teamed up with Ricoh General Counsel Bill LaSalle to spearhead the project. “One of our biggest challenges with the Ricoh initiative was to enable collaboration and information sharing across the various parts of the Ricoh enterprise in a strategic way and still maintain needed controls” said Ellis. “Working as a team we created a platform that allows us all to work together more efficiently.”
The site is used not only as a portal to important information, but to facilitate a proactive analysis as well. For example, it tracks employment cases and claims in real time, allowing Ricoh professionals to focus on areas of concern in human resources, risk management and legal and identify possible training opportunities.
“Our relationship with Ricoh really demonstrates how we partner with our clients to add value and control costs and help them fulfill their strategy and reach their businesses goals,” said Sandy Thomas, Reed Smith’s Global Managing Partner.
