The landmark appeal saw the United Kingdom Supreme Court give judgment on whether internet service providers (ISPs) should bear costs of blocking infringing websites. The successful appellants were British Telecommunications plc and EE Limited.

The Managing IP awards, which took place in London last week, recognise specific achievements in the past year such as significant successful matters and innovative approaches to the law.

Michael Skrein, Reed Smith’s Entertainment and Media Industry Group senior partner, who led the appeal team, commented: “Naturally I'm delighted that the case has been recognised by Managing Intellectual Property.  It was indeed a landmark decision, and of general application in relation to the relevant principles of English law against the background of EU Directives.”

Dr. Anette Gärtner, partner in Reed Smith's Frankfurt office who accepted the award on behalf of the firm, said: "Being awarded in the 'Impact Case' category is especially important to us. This category is always about important cases which have a special impact on legal policies."
