WASHINGTON, D.C. – Global law firm Reed Smith today announced that Matthew K. Loughran has joined the firm’s Life Sciences Health Industry Group as a health policy analyst in Washington, D.C.

Formerly the practice lead for Bloomberg Law’s Health Law Group, Loughran also brings experience as a former practicing attorney and law clerk. In his Reed Smith role, he monitors health policy developments from federal agencies such as the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the HHS Office of Inspector General, the Food and Drug Administration, and from state legislatures and agencies. He provides research and analysis of policy and regulatory changes related to Medicare and Medicaid payment systems, health care fraud and abuse litigation, and pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution. He also serves as editor of the firm’s “Health Industry Washington Watch” blog.

While at Bloomberg Law, Loughran was lead editor for various health law research portfolios and managed a team of content specialists to maintain and create content, and research new products for the Bloomberg Law Health Practice Center. He also provided research and analysis of litigation and regulatory developments related to health care law and compliance.
