Before entering the legal profession, Mike developed a rigorous scientific foundation through the Doctor of Pharmacy program at Rutgers University Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, graduating with Highest Honors. His academic distinction includes induction into the Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society and receipt of the Alvin Felmeister Prize in Pharmacokinetics and the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Merck Award, each awarded to the top-performing graduate in the discipline. This training provided him with advanced expertise in pharmacokinetics, drug development, disease state management, and the chemical and biological mechanisms underlying pharmaceutical products. During and after pharmacy school, Mike worked in various roles, including within the pharmaceutical industry, clinical and long-term care settings, retail pharmacy, and medical information. Mike remains a licensed pharmacist in New Jersey.
Mike has led several trial teams and managed fact discovery and legal strategy in cases involving complex medical and scientific issues. Notably, he served as first-chair trial counsel for his client in the first opioid jury trial in New York. He has also secured dismissal of claims against a foreign manufacturer in federal court based on a successful challenge to personal jurisdiction. He has deposed expert witnesses, treating physicians, and fact witnesses, and prepared company witnesses for deposition. He plays a central role in the development and preparation of expert witnesses for trial, and has extensive experience drafting and arguing dispositive, Daubert/Frye, and pretrial motions. His scientific training and licensure enable him to engage deeply with technical subject matter and translate complex concepts into effective litigation strategies.
Mike’s pro bono practice includes litigating claims on behalf of indigent Philadelphia residents, serving as counsel for an abused minor, and working with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to protect individual liberties. For his work with the ACLU, Mike was a part of a team recognized as “Unsung Heroes” by The Legal Intelligencer.
Prior to joining Reed Smith LLP, Mike was an associate at another major global law firm. Before completing law school, he practiced in a community pharmacy in Trenton, NJ.
