A Legacy in California
Founded in 1903, the Commonwealth Club of California is the nation’s oldest, largest, and most active public affairs forum. From early studies on child labor, Indian rights, and air pollution to efforts that shaped state legislation on civil service, banking, and public defense, the Club has cemented itself as the leading national forum, open to all, for the impartial discussion of public issues – inviting speakers such as Theodore Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr., Ronald Reagan, Bill Gates, Nancy Pelosi, and Jane Goodall.
In 2012, the Club purchased the historic 1910 building at 110 The Embarcadero on San Francisco’s waterfront. With renovations designed by Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects – a firm known for their belief that architecture can address social equity, historic preservation, climate change, and resource depletion – the Club is a remarkable setting, and we are proud to gather our Reed Smith alumni community here for an evening of celebration and connection.
