Matthew is a member of Reed Smith’s Litigation Insurance Recovery Group. He represents corporate policyholders in a wide variety of disputes under all types of insurance policies, including directors and officers insurance, professional liability insurance, commercial general liability insurance, first-party property insurance, and business interruption insurance. Matthew represents clients in high-stakes litigation in state and federal courts throughout the country, as well as in arbitration, and provides advice to policyholders with respect to the presentation of claims, the negotiation of settlements (including alternative dispute resolution), and loss recovery strategies. He also assists clients in their procurement of insurance, including the drafting and negotiation of policy language and the review and analysis of insurance policy forms.

Representing a pharmaceutical distributor policyholder involved in insurance litigation against multiple insurers for coverage for defense costs and indemnity that the policyholder has incurred or will incur in connection with various prescription opioid lawsuits filed nationwide.
Counseling a large multinational company on the presentation of claims and strategy to maximize insurance proceeds under its global directors and officers insurance program.

Advocated for companies in a variety of industries in relation to insurance coverage for losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including seeking coverage under property insurance, business interruption, contingent business interruption, civil authority, and pollution insurance.
Counseled companies in various industries with respect to analyzing their entire insurance program to ensure adequate coverage was provided and that the terms and conditions of the coverage met the needs of the companies.
Represented leading multinational mortgage lenders and servicers against mortgage insurers in various arbitrations and litigations across the country, seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in mortgage insurance coverage for defaulted first- and second-lien mortgage loans.
Represented a leading multinational banking and financial institution in AIG’s RMBS litigation in which AIG was seeking $10 billion under various theories, including securities and common law fraud.
Represented medical alarm provider in connection with coverage for the defense and settlement of a prior lawsuit under directors and officers insurance policy.
