Matthew is a member of Reed Smith’s Litigation Insurance Recovery Group. He represents corporate policyholders in a wide variety of disputes under all types of insurance policies, including directors and officers insurance, professional liability insurance, commercial general liability insurance, first-party property insurance, and business interruption insurance. Matthew represents clients in high-stakes litigation in state and federal courts throughout the country, as well as in arbitration, and provides advice to policyholders with respect to the presentation of claims, the negotiation of settlements (including alternative dispute resolution), and loss recovery strategies. He also assists clients in their procurement of insurance, including the drafting and negotiation of policy language and the review and analysis of insurance policy forms.

Experience

Representative matters

Representing a leading life insurance company in a private arbitration in which it is seeking coverage from more than a dozen insurers for their refusal to cover defense costs and/or indemnity under professional liability insurance policies for multiple class action lawsuits filed against the policyholder for purportedly wrongful acts relating to the administration of its life insurance policies.
Representing a pharmaceutical distributor policyholder involved in insurance litigation against multiple insurers for coverage for defense costs and indemnity that the policyholder has incurred or will incur in connection with various prescription opioid lawsuits filed nationwide.
Counseling a large multinational company on the presentation of claims and strategy to maximize insurance proceeds under its global directors and officers insurance program.
