Legal 500 recommended the firm in the category Latin America International Firms: International Arbitration.
In its review, Legal 500 says: “Reed Smith LLP is an established force in investment and commercial arbitration, acting for a range of international companies and multilatinas. On the investment arbitration front, the team primarily acts for claimants, notably a number of investors in claims against Venezuela and Peru.”
Miami-based international arbitration partner José Astigarraga was given a Hall of Fame designation reserved for “lawyers at the very top of the profession, widely known and respected by peers and clients for their longstanding involvement in market-leading work.”
New York-based senior associate Rebeca Mosquera was given a Leading Associates designation, which honors the top practitioners in the first half of their career.
The publisher also praised the firm’s offices in Houston and Miami, both major hubs of arbitration in Latin America.
The firm’s Houston office is profiled in the Legal 500's City Leaders – Houston list, which said: “Reed Smith LLP's Houston office has a major focus on Latin America, primarily through its thriving international arbitration practice. Mexico disputes are a real forte for the Houston-based team, along with cases involving Colombia, Peru, Chile and Brazil. Many within the group are fluent or native Spanish speakers.”
Legal 500 also describes the firm in its City Leaders – Miami list, which said: “Reed Smith LLP has a substantial Miami team that is widely recognised for its expertise in cross-border disputes, including investment and commercial arbitration, and is also prominent in white-collar crime and investigations, antitrust disputes and bankruptcy cases (particularly in connection with Brazil).
