Hurricane Matthew caused extensive damage and loss of life up and down the east coast due to the destructive wind, rain, and storm surge. Although the eye of Hurricane Matthew did not make landfall, the destruction was devastating, including significant property damage and disruption to business operations throughout Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Recent estimates are that Hurricane Matthew caused $7 billion in insured losses. Like other significant natural disasters, the physical damage and interruption to businesses is significant with impacts ranging from first party property damage to supply chain interruptions to business with customers, suppliers, and vendors.

In this topic, potentially available insurance coverage for losses caused by Hurricane Matthew and similar natural disasters involving significant physical property damage and interruption to business operations will be discussed.
