The California legislature is debating a bill, SB 977, that would require pre-approval from the state Attorney General of any acquisition of a health care facility or provider. The Bill, if adopted, would have significant implications for many health care transactions in California by imposing new requirements on private equity investors, as well as hospitals and health care systems, seeking to acquire hospitals, clinics, laboratories, ambulatory surgery centers, treatment centers and physician practices.
