International law firm Reed Smith has completed negotiations for Jabal Resorts LLC on a US$200m integrated tourism complex (ITC) in Sifah, Oman.

Reed Smith advised Jabal Resorts LLC on the negotiation of the Sub Development Agreement for the project south of Muscat which will include Banyan Tree and Angsana resorts. The project is part of a master development undertaken by Muriya Tourism & Development Company (Muriya) whose main shareholder is Orascom.

The ITC concept, established by Royal Decree in Oman, enables master developers to develop integrated tourism and residential/commercial real estate projects in Oman and then sub-divide land and sell freehold titles for residential property to foreigner owners.

The master development comprises hotels, villas and apartments for sale, a marina town, retail facilities and an 18-hole golf course. The integrated resort spans an area of more than 650 hectares and will be one of the largest lifestyle and entertainment facilities in the region.

Sean Angle, managing partner of Reed Smith’s Dubai office, commented:

“This development is one of the many exciting projects along the coast, south of Muscat. Banyan Tree and Angsana resorts, and Jabal Resorts LLC have combined to create a fantastic concept. Reed Smith is delighted to be a part of this market leading project that is yet another example of the Oman Government’s commitment to broadening foreign investment in Oman.”

Pankaj Khimji of Jabal Resorts LLC, commented:

“It is indeed an exceptional location and the concept of having low density and low rise on this stunning piece of coastline will attract the right segment of tourists to Oman. This concept development is exactly what the Oman Government wished for when they drafted the Tourism Plan for Oman. The team, including Reed Smith, have done well to get us off the blocks ahead of the anticipated competition.”

The Dubai-based Reed Smith team included lead partner, Sean Angle, senior construction associate, Chau Ee Lee, and junior associate Cameron Cuffe.
