March 26, 2015, Houston, TX – Reed Smith Houston Partner Gary C. Johnson, a member of the firm’s Energy & Natural Resources Group, and his wife Linda were honored last night at the Endowed Presidential Scholarship Dinner of the University of Texas at Austin for establishing the Gary C. and Linda W. Johnson First Generation Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Law.

“Our goal in endowing this scholarship opportunity is to provide young people a ‘first in the family’ opportunity to become a lawyer,” said Gary Johnson. “This will not only change the life of that person, but the lives of his or her family for generations that follow. Linda and I hope it will be a start that generates a lot of happy endings.”

Johnson is a 1976 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law. He is Board Certified in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and earned recognition as a Texas Super Lawyer for 2012, 2013 and 2014 from Super Lawyers.

The Johnsons’ story will be included as a part of the University of Texas System’s Legacy Project, which links student recipients of endowed scholarships to their scholarships’ donors and inspires other donors to endow new scholarships.

Endowed scholarships are an everlasting gift to the University of Texas at Austin and are never spent. They are invested, and earnings from the investment provide ongoing support for the university. The University’s Legacy Project is a history of lives changed for the benefit of society by these funds.
