NEW YORK - A rare ray of sunshine brightened the international refugee community today as Reed Smith and a group of international partners announced the Lamp Lifeboat Ladder initiative to resettle displaced individuals and their families who survived torture and/or sexual violence in their homelands.
In partnership with the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture and numerous other nonprofit organizations worldwide – and with funding of Can$500,000 from Boston-based Shapiro Foundation and financial support from other nonprofit foundations and philanthropists such as Dean Dakolias of Fortress Investment Group – Lamp Lifeboat Ladder has the goal of resettling 90 refugee families in its first phase and supporting them in healing and rebuilding their lives.
